There Is Light Somewhere Cap
The exhibition’s title is inspired by Strachan’s neon, There is a Light in Darkness (2024) which draws a quote from James Baldwin’s 1964 essay “Nothing Personal.” Baldwin wrote, “It is necessary, while in darkness, to know that there is a light somewhere, to know that in oneself, waiting to be found, there is a light.” This hat also features an embroidered silhouette of the SS Yarmouth, the first ship incorporated into Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line shipping company.
